Randall Stross writes in the Aug 8, 2008 NYT that passwords and password-based login to OpenID is inherently insecure, and should be replaced by Information Cards. Parity's CEO, Paul Trevithic rebuts, noting that both OpenID and Information Cards have some shortcomings, but could be a powerful solution if combined.

 

June 24, 2008 – An array of prominent names in the high-technology community today announced the formation of a non-profit foundation, The Information Card Foundation, to advance a simpler, more secure and more open digital identity on the Internet, increasing user control over their personal information while enabling mutually beneficial digital relationships between people and businesses.
